Third stage of the Dakar Rally 2025

The Dakar 2025 is unforgiving: between rollovers and withdrawals, only the strongest survive! Here’s what happened to one of the rally’s top stars.

Sébastien Loeb has officially withdrawn from the 2025 Dakar Rally after a rollover during the third stage between Bisha and Al Henakiyah. His Dacia Sandrider shed parts along the track, forcing him to make emergency repairs and reach the bivouac an hour behind schedule.

The FIA conducted a thorough safety inspection and concluded that the damage to his vehicle was too severe for him to continue the race.

A Relentless Dakar
Loeb is not the only major contender to bow out:
Reigning champion Carlos Sainz Sr withdrew after his Ford Raptor suffered roll cage damage in Stage 2.
Laia Sanz was forced to exit after her roll cage was displaced by just 2mm following a crash.

The Remaining Contenders
Henk Lategan holds the lead with a 7-minute 17-second advantage over Nasser Al-Attiyah.
Al-Attiyah is now Dacia’s last hope for victory, while Cristina Gutiérrez is back in the rally after a steering rack failure in Stage 2 but is no longer in contention for the overall win.
